34" heavy blade with wide fuller and clipped point, this very sword is illustrated in Bezdek's book "Swords and Sword Maker's of England & Scotland", illustrated on pages 290-291. Steel hilt with pierced guard, leather covered reeded wooden grip with no grip wire. Original heavy steel scabbard with two harrying rings. One of the primary weapons used by the British army during the Napoleonic wars. CONDITION:" Blade is patinated throughout with some moderate pitting. A few very minor chips in edge. Hilt more heavily pitted. Grip in good condition with only minor losses to leather. Steel scabbard with several significant dents and only minor pitting throughout. One seam is split for approximately 1/2" near screw holding the liner. Both screws appear to be replaced. A scarce sword made all the more desirable by its inclusion on Mr. Bezdek's encyclopedic work on British and Scottish swords.
