A scale model of a New England whale boat D. Mitchell (American, b. 1943) the hull of the model is built up in plank on frame construction using basswood. The planking on the hull is held in place with brass pins, the waist and the coaming are painted red with a black band in between. The interior of the hull is planked and fitted with floor boards, thwarts and centerboard trunk. The model is fitted with numerous other details which include oars, rudder, tiller, harpoons, line buckets, floats, gun, knife, compass, mast rigged with sprit, and numerous other details. The model is mounted on four brass pins on a mahogany board. 25¾ x 6¾ x 18 in. (65.4 x 17.1 x 45.7 cm.) model on base board
