CIRCA 1810/15 CASE: the drum case surmounted by an ormolu eagle with spread wings and flanked by ormolu recumbent lions, above a plain stepped plinth and with probably later ebonized and parcel gilt stand, the rear door punched '538' DIAL: with entwined serpent bezel to ormolu dial with dot minute track, matted Roman chapter ring and engine-turned centre, blued steel heart-shaped hands, the reverse punched '538', also inscribed '30839', with indistinct initials and 'Novr 1 1832/G Coates' MOVEMENT: the eight day movement with circular plates, single gut fusee with half deadbeat escapement, pendulum regulation above the plates, the front plate punched '538' and the back plate signed 11½ in. (29 cm.) high, 12½ in. (32 cm.) wide, overall
