A REGENCE ORMOLU-MOUNTED AND BRASS-INLAID AMARANTH AND PARQUETRY COMMODE EN TOMBEAU ATTRIBUTED TO ETIENNE DOIRAT, CIRCA 1725 The serpentine-fronted rouge Languedoc marble top with moulded edge above a concave and convex bombe facade, with three simulated panelled frieze drawers mounted with rosettes and spirally twisted handles and a rosette cast frieze, above two long drawers, decorated sans travers , one mounted with interlaced serpent-handles, the other mounted with spirally twisted handles, above a waved apron centred by a pierced clasp modelled with a female mask, the angles headed by elaborate corner clasps cast with a maiden's and a youth's head respectively, the back angles similarly headed by masks, lambrequins and foliage, the sides decorated conformingly and with pierced rosette mounts, on splayed feet with elaborate pierced scrolling foliate sabots, the central escutcheon later 33 in. (84 cm.) high; 60 ¼ in. (153 cm.) wide; 29 ½ in. (75 cm.) deep
