A rare William III walnut and Arabesque marquetry eight-day longcase clock William Bilsbrough, Gargrave, circa 1695-1700 The four thick finned pillar inside countwheel bell striking movement with anchor escapement regulated by seconds pendulum and tall plates, the 11.25 inch square brass dial with subsidiary seconds dial, ringed winding holes and calendar aperture to the fine foliate scroll engraved centre within applied silvered Roman numeral chapter ring with stylised sword hilt half hour markers, Arabic five minutes to narrow outer track and signed William Bilsborrow, Fecit to lower edge, with pierced blued steel hands and angles applied with winged cherub mask and foliate scroll cast spandrels, in a case with ogee moulded cornice and floral trail pierced fret to frieze above conforming foliate strapwork scroll inlaid glazed hinged dial surround applied with Solomonic three-quarter columns to front angles, the sides with rectangular windows and later baluster turned half columns applied next to bargeboards at the rear, the trunk with convex marquetry veneered throat moulding centred with a grotesque mask over 41.5 inch rectangular door centred with a circular lenticle and with three shaped marquetry panels decorated with bird inhabited strapwork scrolling foliage enveloping grotesque masks incorporating pewter inlaid eyes on a fruitwood ground within a walnut field, the sides veneered in walnut, the base with stepped ogee top moulding and conforming rectangular marquetry panel within further crossbanded surround over shallow mounded skirt, 202cm (79.5ins) high.
