A RARE PAIR OF GILT-DECORATED CELADON-GROUND FAMILLE ROSE ‘EUROPEAN SUBJECT’ VASES 18TH CENTURY Each lobed vase is decorated with shaped panels on either side, one with a woman carrying a child on her back walking in a wintry landscape beside a dog, and the other with a woman crowning the head of the man kneeling before her with a garland of flowers. The panels are reserved on a celadon ground decorated in gilding with chrysanthemum scroll beneath stylized lappets on the waisted neck which is flanked by two dragon-form handles. Each base bears the remnants of a seal mark. 11 7/8 in. (29.9 cm.) high Provenance Albert Gallatin (1761-1849) Collection, Pennsylvania.
