A rare ornamental turning outfit by Holtzapffel , comprising lathe No. 2453 and a standing mahogany cabinet, the upper tier with mirror lined back and glazed doors, the lower tier with panelled doors enclosing drawers -- 88 in. (224 cm.) high THE LATHE: 5-inch centre screw mandrel, brass pulley with standard six-row division plate, star nut, tangent screw and segment apparatus, screw-barrel tailstock, ornamental turning slide rest, treadle gear, double mahogany frame with iron bed and shepherd's-crook overhead drive for cutting frames. THE CABINET: the upper tier containing five shelves with fitted contents as follows. References are to Holtzapffel's Turning and Mechanical Manipulation , giving Volume and Figure numbers.
