A RARE LARGE GREYISH-GREEN AND BROWN JADE FIGURE OF A RECUMBENT WATER BUFFALO MING DYNASTY (1368-1644) The recumbent beast well and cleverly carved with flattened features to conform to the irregular shape of the large pebble, its body coiled around so that the muzzle rests on the flank beside the right rear hoof, while the three other legs and hoofs are carved on the underside, the head carved with broad nose, eyes with incised pupils and ears projecting below the curved, grooved horns, with finely incised hair markings on the tail flicked up onto the right rear haunch, the greyish-green stone suffused with buff and blackish inclusions and with extensive brown coloring 10½ in.
