A RARE INSCRIBED WHITE JADE COLUMNAR PENDANT
SONG DYNASTY OR LATER
A RARE INSCRIBED WHITE JADE COLUMNAR PENDANT SONG DYNASTY OR LATER The pendant is carved in the shape of a cylinder with rounded waisted terminals on both ends, the mid-section divided into eight facets, incised on all facets with a script rendered in the shuanggou , 'outlined' technique. One facet is inscribed with a second month, spring of Xuanhe first year date, corresponding to 1120, followed by the inscription 'Respectfully made by the Jade Workshop of Xiuneisi. The succeeding facet is inscribed with 'Poem in five-character lines by Tao Yuanming of Jin', followed by three poems by the Jin dynasty poet Tao Qian (372-427), which extend to the other six facets. The opaque white stone has a faint yellowish undertone, with a small patch of pale russet inclusion. 2 3/8 in. (5.9 cm.) long
