A RARE GRAYISH-GREEN JADE "TOOTHED" PENDANT FRAGMENT LATE NEOLITHIC PERIOD, HONGSHAN CULTURE, 3500-2500 B.C. The thin plaque well carved on both sides with a series of curvilinear grooves and corresponding ridges sweeping downward to form a lower row of tapering, ridged 'teeth' or 'tusks' and a wide, incurved cusp at one end below a straight bar, two of the grooves curving tightly upward along the upper edge on either side of a narrow central ridge to form the outer edges of concave 'sockets' drilled through the center with circular 'eye' holes, with two grooved, tapering 'teeth' below, with a small biconical hole drilled through the ridge of one 'socket' and another smaller hole drilled near the curved outer edge, the gray-green stone with a soft lustrous polish now almost completely altered to an opaque buff color and showing extensive traces of cinnabar and some earth encrustation, sections broken off--3½in. (8.9cm.) long
