A rare French silver spoon Montpellier, first half of the 14th century Shaped oval, the tapering stem with lion's mask at the join and baluster finial, marked on reverse of the bowl 14.5 cm. (5.5/8 in.) long 9 gr. (0.3 oz.) The Montpellier town mark on this spoon was used until about 1355 and all extent pieces dating from the 2nd half of the 14th century are struck with the town mark alone.
