A RARE CARVED RED LACQUER THREE-TIERED BOX AND COVER QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795) The tall box of quatrefoil form, finely carved in high relief on the top with a scene of a scholar offering a libation cup while gazing at the distant landscape, accompanied by three boy attendants who stand before a stand of pawlonia trees as well as wutong and bamboo, the sides of each section finely carved with shaped rectangular panels of formal lotus scroll reserved on a ground of cell pattern, and each of the four indented corners superimposed with an auspicious motif such as the flaming pearl, double cash and lingzhi fungus, all raised on a separately made conforming red lacquer stand carved with patterns of wan , cell and key fret 8 in.
