Snuff bottles from a Scottish Collection A rare and unusual carved buffalo horn snuff mull Early 19th century The circular domed cover deeply carved to the central roundel with a scholar and attendant beneath a tree within a foliate border, and hinged on a white-metal mount, the mull with single scene of figures busy in a terraced landscape above a European neo-classical style acanthus-carved scroll terminal. 10.5cm high. Fußnoten Provenance: a private Scottish collection, and by descent to the current owner. Probably originally a commission for a Scottish patron as it is steamed into the form of a Scottish ram's horn snuff mull, before carving in typical Canton export style.
