A RARE AND FINELY CARVED MING CINNABAR LACQUER TABLE SCREEN HONGZHI PERIOD (1488-1505) The rectangular panel with wooden body and canted corners, carved on both sides with intricate pictorial scenes through layers of cinnabar lacquer, depicting a procession of officials on horseback with attendants arriving at a grand mansion by a riverbank, set within a walled garden with lush trees, bridges and pavilions, with further figures in the buildings attending various activities, in the distance with mountains amidst clouds and birds, rendering the legendary Western Han scene Zouma zhangtai jie , 'Passing through Zhangtai Street on horseback', enclosed within a later silver wire inlaid zitan frame and stand 25 1/4 x 14 1/2 x 8 7/16 in.
