A Q.P.M., C.P.M. group of four awarded to S. M. Locke Esq., Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police, Uganda Queen’s Police Medal, E.II.R., 2nd issue, for Distinguished Service (Sen. Asst. Commsr. Stephen M. Locke, Uganda.) with Royal Mint case of issue; War Medal 1939-45; Colonial Police Medal, E.II.R., 1st issue, for Meritorious Service (Sen. Supt. Stephen M. Locke, Uganda Police) with Royal Mint case of issue; Uganda Independence Medal 1962, mounted as worn; together with the recipient’s Royal Life Saving Society Award of Merit, silver (S. M. Locke. 1931) in embossed case of issue; the recipient’s Royal Life Saving Society Proficiency Medal, bronze (S. M. Locke Oct. 1931) in embossed case of issue; and seven additional miscellaneous prize medallions, silver, in various cases, good very fine and better (13) £500-700 Footnote Q.P.M. Stephen Montague ‘Monty’ Locke ‘commenced his Police career with three years’ service in the West Riding Constabulary, and his first appointment in Uganda was an an Assistant Inspector in August 1934. During his long years in the Force served in most stations, as well as holding appointments in Headquarters including that of Senior Assistant Commissioner (Administration) and, for a time, Acting Deputy Inspector General. His last post was as Senior Assistant Commissioner Buganda Region. He received a number of commendations during his service, as well as the award of the Colonial Police Medal for Meritorious Service and the Queen’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service. He retired in July 1964 after 30 years’ service in the Uganda Police, and will be remembered by all as a patient, understanding and humane officer, who was popular with all ranks.’ (the recipient’s retirement notice refers). Sold together with a copy of the programme for the Ceremony of Presentation of the New Year Honours and Awards, Government House, Entebbe, 2 August 1963 (where Locke received his Q.P.M.); and accompanying Invitation to Mrs. Locke; and a photographic image of the recipient.
