A PAIR OF WILLIAM IV SILVER WINE-COOLERS, COLLARS AND LINERS
LONDON, 1836, MAKER'S MARK INDISTINCT
A PAIR OF WILLIAM IV SILVER WINE-COOLERS, COLLARS AND LINERS LONDON, 1836, MAKER'S MARK INDISTINCT Fluted bucket-form, with gadrooned border and two wolf-mask drop-ring handles, engraved with a coat-arms, the collars and liners engraved with a crest, later engraved with the Royal arms with a label for difference within the Garter motto and with Royal duke's coronet above, marked near handles, on collars and liners 7¾ in. (19.2 cm.) high 185 oz. (5,760 gr.) The Royal arms are for the Duke of Cambridge, almost certainly for Prince George 2nd Duke of Cambridge (1819-1904), son of Prince Adolphus, 1st Duke of Cambridge (1774-1850). The other arms are an assumed coat-of-arms resembling the arms of Wood, possibly for Canon John Ryle Wood (d.1886), tutor to Prince George Duke of Cambridge and Chaplain to King William IV and Queen Adelaide.
