A PAIR OF ROYAL LOUIS XVI ORMOLU-MOUNTED EGYPTIAN ALABASTER VASES Circa 1770-1775 The ormolu mounts executed by Pierre Gouthire, the design attributed to Franois-Joseph Belanger, the cutting attributed to Augustin Bocciardi commissioned by the duc d'Aumont and purchased at his sale in 1782 by Louis XVI The domed stepped covers with berried finials, the tazze-shaped bodies mounted with superbly chased and gilded d'or mat bifurcated laurel handles, on spirally-reeded spreading socles bordered with oak foliage and sunflowers, one vase incised A in the interior, the alabaster probably ancient, on circular stepped verde antico marble bases, the socles possibly replaced in the late 18th century 16in.
