A pair of Meissen yellow-ground chinoiserie teacups and saucers Circa 1740, blue crossed swords marks, Pressnummer 52 to one cup, 3 to one saucer and impressed P to the other saucer Painted in the manner of P.E. Schindler , the yellow ground exterior of each cup reserved on both sides with vignettes of Orientals at various pursuits on terraces including two figures playing with a monkey on a table, within gilt line quatrefoil cartouches, the saucers with Orientals on terraces with flowering shrubs and trees, one with Orientals beside a bird coop, a figure nearby with a bow and arrow, the other with an Oriental and his companion by an exotic bird, within gilt line quatrefoil cartouches with Böttger -lustre panels, iron-red diaper pattern panels and iron-red and purple scrolls, the yellow-ground undersides with gilt band footrims, the saucers and interiors of the cups with gilt interlocking scroll and line ornament borders, gilt line rims (some scratching to ground and enamels, wear to gilt rims, one saucer with restored rim chip, crack to base of one handle) (2)
