A pair of late 18th century Chinese export porcelain Famille Rose armorial salts together with a matching small saucer dishdecorated with the armorial crests of the Seton family
the salts of canted rectangular form on tapering plinth bases, the dished centres enamelled and gilded with two armorials within interlaced flowerhead borders to the rims, the exteriors with ring hung line and floral garland borders, the bases with line and dot banded borders, the base of one salt with two applied paper labels for 'Santos Chinese Porcelain, London', the matching saucer dish of shaped canted circular form, the underside with 'P.B. Cooke Collection' paper label and a further paper label numbered and marked '726 Seton', the salts, 3.2cm high, 8cm wide, the plate 15.5cm diameter (3)FootnotesProvenance

The three pieces acquired at Christies by a family member to add to the original pieces from their collection.
The crest applied to the porcelain in the above lot are that of the Seton family, who were one of Scotland's ancient families and who resided at various times at Seton Place and at Fyvie Castle, until their departure in the mid 18th century.
The lineage of the family dates back to the early 14th century when Sir Cristopher Seton married Lady Christian Bruce, sister of King Robert the Bruce. A later descendent was Mary Seton who was was lady-in-waiting to Mary Queen of Scots and one of her famed 'four Marys'. Alexander Seton, 1st Earl Dunfermline added Seton tower as the entrance in 1599. The Lords Seton were also the premier barons of Scotland and became Earls of Huntly, Winton, Dunfermline, Eglinton and Chancellors of Scotland.
