A PAIR OF GILTWOOD AND COMPOSITION TWIN ARM WALL APPLIQUES IN GEORGE III STYLE 19TH CENTURY The pierced shaped backplates carved with oval paterae husks and flaming urns and with scrolling foliate branches 67cm high, 37cm wide, 16cm protuberance Provenance: In the Music Room at Holmstead Manor and thence by descent to Oliver Messel Purchased from Oliver Messel by Frederick and Phyllis Watkins for Flaxley Abbey Condition Report: wear, marks, knocks and scratches as per age, handling, use, and cleaning. The surface generally quite grimy- dry to the touch and with some flaking to gilding. There is cracking to composition and some areas of knocks and losses. Both with two large screw holes to back plates- and signs of brown coloured remedial restoration to all arms and other sections such as terminal drop. Section of 'veneer' to one drop detached but present- revealing plaster and iron armature. Subsequent to main catalogue image- one section of surface moulding is now missing to base of one vase finial. Reverse showing indications that these may have been wired at some point- now no longer present. However, all lots are of an age and type which means that they may not be in perfect condition and should be viewed by prospective bidders; please refer to Condition 6 of the Conditions of Business for Buyers.
