A PAIR OF GERMAN FLINTLOCK SPORTING RIFLES with minor differences, with swamped octagonal sighted barrels, one rifled with six and the other with seven grooves, and struck on each breech with brass-lined barrelsmith's mark (Neue Støckel 7580), and four small decorative marks, folding leaf back-sights with chiselled foliate finial, flat bevelled detented locks each with stepped tail, one stamped on the inside with maker's mark (Neue Støckel 8076) of Michael Poucin of Liège (tumbler defective, cock-retaining screw replaced), moulded figured walnut full stocks (one fore-end cracked), the butts (slightly wormed) each carved with scrolls and foliage, lightly carved patch-box covers (one chipped), bevelled iron mounts with shaped finials (trigger-guard finials damaged on one rifle), set triggers (one damaged), horn fore-end caps, iron sling mounts (two missing), and associated horn-tipped ramrods, by Johann Valentin Heibach, early 18th Century 24¾in. barrels [E.346,347, S.16,27] (2)
