PROPERTY FROM AN AMERICAN PRIVATE COLLECTIONA PAIR OF COBALT BLUE GLAZED BOWLSJingweitang zhi marks, 18th-19th century With deeply rounded sides, each with iron-brown wash on the everted rim and glazed in deep cobalt blue on the exterior, the base with Jingweitang zhi 敬畏堂製 hall mark in underglaze blue within double square. 6 5/8in (17.1cm) diam.; 3 1/4in (8.5cm) highFootnotes十八-十九世紀 藍釉碗一對 《敬畏堂製》雙框款 Provenance: Stuart Hilbert, Michigan, purchased in the late 1980's 出處: 1980 年代晚期購自密西根 Stuart Hilbert A pair of cobalt blue bowls of this size bearing Jingweitang zhi marks was sold at Bonhams New York, 19 March 2018, lot 8067. The mark Jingweitang zhi was recorded by Chen Liu (1863-1929), sobriquet Jiyuan sou, in his 1906 publication Tao ya describing the porcelain made only in celadon wares, but as Wilson stresses in Rare Marks on Chinese Ceramics, London, 1998, pp. 114-115, no. 47, where the author illustrates a celadon bowl bearing Jingweitang zhi mark, "not all vessels with this mark are celadon-glazed." Scholars have yet to locate sufficient evidence to identify the owner of the Jingweitang zhi-marked porcelains. Wang Qingzheng has suggested in Jianming taoci cidian that this group of porcelains belonged to the Manchu high official Agedunbu, while Yang Tingfu recorded in Qing ren shiming biecheng zihao suoyin that Jingweitang was the studio name of Li Hu (zi Duanren, hao Zhucun), a native of Cixi, near the present day Ningbo in Zhejiang province. When the studio name is associated with more than one person it is necessary to find further documentation, which oftentimes recorded in private letters and random notes.
