A NORTH EUROPEAN OAK, FRUITWOOD AND LEATHER UPHOLSTERED WING ARMCHAIR EARLY 18TH CENTURY 119.5cm high, 66cm wide, 78cm deep overall Provenance: Private Collection, Berkshire Condition Report: Please note there are 19th century alterations incorporating later elements including the wings/ears, the crest rail engraved 1747, the lower cross bar of the back, and the leather. There are scratches, marks, knocks, cracks and abrasions consistent with age and use. There are losses, observations and restorations including: lacking the top of the crest which appears to have broken off along the grain of the timber; the oak wings/ears are sectional; there is evidence of worm; the leather upholstery is not original as there are tack holes presumably from previous upholstery around the front of the legs; the leather is thick and aged with creases, marks, cracks and indentations, some patching with later leather underlying including to one arm; cracks along the grain of timber; the back panel a stained sack cloth/hessian type fabric; some dipping to the central area of the seat; the carving worn to the top and front of the arms; the feet reduced in height with metal bosses to the underside of the feet; repairs including a later inner back seat rail.
