A NEAR PAIR OF LOUIS XV ALLEGORICAL TAPESTRIES BY JACQUES NEILSON CIRCA 1750-1770, AFTER DESIGNS BY CLAUDE AUDRAN LOUIS BOULOGNE, CORNEILLE AND ALEXANDRE-FRANCOIS DESPORTES, THIS PANEL IS REDESIGNED BY SOUFFLOT Woven in silks and wools, depicting 'Autumn' and 'Spring' from the 'Portières des Dieux' series, represented respectively by Bacchus and Venus seated on a cloud, with the zodiac signs of Scorpio and Taurus above and subsidiary signs of Libra and Sagittarius and Aries, set in elaborate architectural and scrollwork surround, within a four-sided blue and gold frame-pattern border, reduced in height along bottom of the field, some localised areas of reweaving to the sides of the fields 108 ¼ in.
