A miscellaneous collection of balances and weights, a lacquered brass and steel beam balance with copper pans, the steel beam stamped To weigh 2oz , on detachable oak plinth base 13½in. (34.3cm.) high ; two steel mancur spring balances, one painted black -- 11in. (28cm.) long ; a steel spring balance with maker's stamp Portia Regd. and Baby Balance Made In England -- 6½in. (16.5cm) long ; two copper and steel travelling beam balances; an early 19th-Century lacquered brass travelling soveign balance by A. Wilkinson , with maker's instruction on the inside lid ( missing holding pan ) -- 5in. (12.7cm.) long when closed ; a pocket pendulum letter balance -- 4¾in. (12cm.) long ; a Sike's hydrometer set, with float, nine of ten weights and ivorine backed thermometer signed Farrow & Jackson, London & Paris , contained in a plush-lined wood case with ivorine maker's plaque inscribed Sike's Hydrometer Farrow & Jackson. London & Paris -- 7 7/8in. (20cm.) long , and another Sike's hydrometer with float and seven of ten weights ( thermometer missing ), contained in plush-lined, fishskin covered case with white metal maker's plaque inscribed Sikes Hydrometer T.O.Buss 33 Hatton Garden, London -- 5/8in. (11.7cm.) long; an early 19th-Century diamond balance, by De Grave, Short & Comp Y , the steel beam balance with nickel-plated brass, eight weights, inside lid of case with calculating table, contained in wood case -- 5 5/8in. (14.4cm.) long ; a 19th-Century case set of brass hemispherical eight hemispherical weights, in fitted leatherette covered case -- 4 5/8in. (11.7cm.) long ; four books concerning balances and weights, including Salter The Story of a Family Firm 1760-1960 , by Mary Bache, 1960, West Bromwich inscribed inside Presented by Geo Salter & Co.
