A MEISSEN (K.P.M.) GOLD-MOUNTED CHINOISERIE SNUFF-BOX CIRCA 1723-24, INTERIOR WITH BLUE CROSSED SWORDS ABOVE K.P.M. MARK Of waisted bombé form, the exterior painted with Orientals at discussion by estuaries before distant mountains, within gilt quatrefoil cartouches edged with gilt scrolls enclosing Böttger - lustre panels, the cover and front cartouches flanked by figures on Böttger -lustre and gilt-scroll pedestals, with two Eisenrot panels enclosing figures above the cartouche on the reverse, the sides with similar panels, drapery and scrolls, the purpurmalerei base with Orientals at discussion, within an oval gilt band, the cover interior with a turbanned man, a mother and a child before sampans on a river and distant mountains joined by a bridge, the wave-pattern hinged gold mount with a shell and flower thumbpiece (small chip to edge of cover by thumbpiece, mounts probably re-attached) 2¾ in. (7 cm.) wide overall
