Beschreibung:

A MAHOGANY SOFA TABLE IN GOTHIC REVIVAL TASTE CIRCA 1825 AND LATER 71.5cm high, 91cm wide with leaves down, 142cm wide with leaves up, 71cm deep Provenance: Property of The Hon. Catherine Mary Wass, OBE (1942-2021) most likely inherited from the 7th Viscount Gort in 1975 from Hamsterley Hall, Co. Durham This sofa table was photographed in 'The Regency Room' at Hamsterley Hall by Country Life in 1939; p. 422, fig. 10. Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions consistent with age and use As per the catalogue description - overall this table appears to have had some level of adaption and alteration, there are some quirks and oddities such as the mouldings to the edges of the frieze which have been lengthened previously, the drawers open with one to each side (which does happen in cabinet making of this period) however, the drawers appear to have been created from the drawer fronts and later lined - this may indicate the table started with four (false) drawer fronts. Old splits and cracks, some chips and losses, There is what appears to be a later piece of timber to the underside above the high stretcher, this is attached via screws. The handles looks original, they have good patina The top is formed of bookmatched panels, there are knocks, scratches, abrasions, indentations. The colour is faded, there is colour variation over the two sides, there are some old splits and cracks. The sides of the table top stand proud from the sides of the table when the flaps are down Overall the frame appears solid and stable There is some minor woodworm holes to the lopers and supports Please refer to additional images for visual reference to condition Condition Report Disclaimer
