A MAGNIFICENT BURMESE SAPPHIRE AND GOLCONDA DIAMOND PENDENT NECKLACE, BY DREICER & CO The cushion-shaped sapphire weighing 47.64 carats suspending a pear-shaped diamond weighing 26.98 carats to the bar link and diamond collet neckchain, circa 1910, in original fitted leather case by Dreicer & Co, 560 Fifth Avenue, New York By Dreicer & Co With report no. 0301105 dated 31 January 2003 from the Gübelin Gemlab stating that the sapphire is of Burmese origin, no indications of thermal enhancement Report no. 12500623 dated 25 March 2003 from the Gemological Institute of America stating that the diamond is D colour, VS1 clarity; accompanied by working diagram indicating that the clarity is potentially flawless Report no. 0309062 dated 30 September 2003 from the Gübelin Gemlab stating that the diamond is D colour, VS2 clarity Accompanied by a note and appendix stating that the diamond of 26.98 carats possesses an old cutting style which is rarely encountered in the gem trade today. In addition, this diamond is classified as type IIa (a chemically very pure type of natural diamond). It displays a colour and degree of transparency which are particular to these unique gemstones. Diamonds of this type, exibiting an old cutting style as well as a fine quality, are rare and will most certainly evoke references to the historic term of 'Golconda'
