A LOUIS XIV ORMOLU-MOUNTED KINGWOOD, AMARANTH, FRUITWOOD AND MARQUETRY COMMODE CIRCA 1710, POSSIBLY BY ANDRÉ-CHARLES BOULLE OR AUBERTIN GAUDRON Of arc en arbalette form, the rounded rectangular top with gadrooned and lappetted border inlaid with a central vase of flowers including jasmine in ivory, tulips, carnations, and other flowers, all standing on an illusionistic pedestal borne upon the head of an Indian mask with mother-of-pearl eyes and burr-elm beard within an elaborate acanthus and foliate arabesque scroll with floral garlands, flanked by illusionistic pictorial birds standing on a lambrequin-draped plinth and with sprouting cornucopia to the scrolled acanthus frame, all issuing floral garlands that wrap around the upper border, the front with two short and two long walnut-lined drawers, each treated as two pairs of drawers with female mask escutcheons with floral-garlanded hair, flanked by flowering cornucopia, the handles with stylised masks within a scallop shell and foliate pounced border, the centre with further masks, the handles of the lower two long drawers with further Indian masks flanked by canted angles with trailing foliage and kick-out scrolls, the sides inlaid with pictorial flower vase marquetry, on pieds de biche 32¼ in. (82 cm.) high; 51¾ in. (131.5 cm.) wide; 26½ in. (67 cm.) deep
