Beschreibung:

A Louis Majorelle walnut and marquetry buffet, with an arched and carved back, an inset marble top, two drawerrs and doors and flanking shelves, 141cm high, 156cm wide, 45cm deep Provenance: Peter Grant (1935-1995), thence by descent ôThe man who 'Led' Zeppelinö Peter Grant was, most famously, the manager of the band Led Zeppelin. Early in his life he had worked as a bouncer, wrestler and a film extra in movies such as The Guns of Navarone and Cleopatra. He became tour manager of Chuck Berry, the Everly Brothers, Gene Vincent and The Animals before taking on the Yardbirds, who were later to become Led Zeppelin. When he flew to New York in 1968 to sign Led Zeppelin to Atlantic records he secured the highest advance paid to any band at that time. He was instrumental in catapulting Led Zeppelin to superstardom and became one of the most powerful men in the music industry. This collection of Art Nouveau furniture and pictures were formed by Peter Grant whilst touring America and Europe with the band in the 1970s. Between concerts Peter Grant and Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page would often visit antique markets and shops as they shared a passion for collecting Art Nouveau and Art Deco furniture and objects. See: Duncan, Alastair 'Louis Majorelle: Master of Art Nouveau Design' London 1991, illus. 54 for a contemporary illustration of a dining suite including this model of buffet
