Title: A Leaf from a Fifteenth Century Flemish Book of Hours Author: Schulz, H. C. Place: San Francisco Publisher: David Magee Date: 1938 Description: Introductory essay by H.C. Schultz, Assistant Curator of Manuscripts at the Huntington Library. Illustrated with an original illuminated MS. leaf on uterine calf vellum (6¼"x4¼"); recto & verso each with two columns of 31 lines of script. (8vo) 8½x5¾, linen backed patterned boards, printed spine label. One of 120 copies printed in French Lettres Batardes at the Grabhorn Press. "The manuscript is a typical example of Flemish illumination of the very late fifteenth century done on vellum. A mat ground with graceful sprigs of flowers, conventional scrolls and the inevitable bird, insect or grotesque speak at once of its nationality. Fine work on a very minute scale is contained in the initials" - (p.13). GB 286. Lot Amendments Condition: Lacks slipcase; bookseller's clipped catalogue entry tipped to front endpaper; else fine.
