BY GILLOWS, CIRCA 1884, IN THE MANNER OF STEPHEN WEBB
A LATE VICTORIAN ROSEWOOD AND MARQUETRY SIDE CABINET BY GILLOWS, CIRCA 1884, IN THE MANNER OF STEPHEN WEBB Of D-shaped outline and inlaid throughout in various woods and mother-of-pearl, the frieze centred by a pair of dancing putti with foliage, perching birds and cornucopia between mask-inlaid blocks, the carved and panelled door centred by an oval medallion depicting a draped female figure playing a lyre and flanked by grotesque-inlaid pilasters with foliate and mask capitals, with glazed and velvet-lined cabinets to each side, raised on turned guilloche, swag and stiff-leaf carved front supports and a panelled back, the beaded plinth with foliate feet, stamped 'GILLOWS' and numbered '16649' 52½ in. (133 cm.) high; 51 in. (130 cm.) wide; 16 in. (41 cm.) deep
