A late Victorian or Edwardian walnut sofa1900-1910, in the William and Mary style
Upholstered with gros-point needlework designed with acanthus, stylised foliage with shaped scrolled and interlaced strapwork, with two central oval cartouches, each oval inset with earlier (possibly early 18th century) petit-point needlework, one cartouche depicting huntsmen chasing a stag with hounds and the other of assorted birds, trees, flowers and a dragonfly, on four octagonal cup-and-cover and block front legs terminating in octagonal bun feet, with four splayed ring turned and block rear legs, with intricate shaped and scroll carved stretchers, approximately: 218cm wide x 86cm deep x 110cm high, (85 1/2in wide x 33 1/2in deep x 43in high)FootnotesProvenance
