A LARGE SANCAI -GLAZED POTTERY FIGURE OF A HORSE TANG DYNASTY (AD 618-907) The powerful horse is shown standing foursquare on a rectangular plinth with head turned slightly to the left and mouth open. The head is well detailed with slightly flared nostrils and expressive eyes set below a split forelock and pricked ears. The muscular neck is emphasized by the hogged mane. The unglazed saddle is set on top of a similarly unglazed blanket, and the trappings are glazed in amber, cream, and bright green glaze, which stand out against the amber-glazed body. 19 in. (48.2 cm.) high
