A LARGE PAINTED POTTERY FIGURE OF A COURT LADY TANG DYNASTY (618-907) Well modelled standing with body swayed slightly to the left and head turned inquisitively to the side, her arms bent in front of the body, the long, heavy robes falling in deep folds to the cloud-toed shoes painted in red and white with small florets and foliate designs arranged in patterns on the blackish ground, and with a pale greenish scarf draped over the shoulders to trail down her back where the robes flare out gracefully atop the base, her full face modelled with delicate features framed by the stiff wings of her hair which is drawn up in back into a large loop worn to one side, traces of black, pale green, red, pink and white pigment 27 5/8 in. (70.2 cm.) high
