AND LATER A Neo-Assyrian chalcedony seal, a hero in contest with two quadrupeds and another hero in contest with a winged with a winged human-headed sphinx, circa 7th Century B.C.; an Old Babylonian haematite seal with a Lama goddess facing a divine king, with three-line cuneiform inscription, circa 1900-1700 B.C.; an Akkadian black serpentine seal with a seated god being approached by two gods, a larger god kneeling down on one knee behind, a scorpion in the field, circa 2300-2200 B.C.; twelve Mesopotamian hardstone, one of green frit, cylinder seals including an Achaemenid orange stone seal with a royal hero grappling with two human-headed winged sphinxes, circa 5th/early 4th Century B.C.; and eight other cylinder seals, late 3rd/1st millennium B.C., one modern, 1 1/8 in. (2.5 cm.) high max.; three scaraboids, one of green glass; a Turkmenistan mottled green and white stone disc-shaped stamp seal engraved with a bird, 2nd-1st millennium B.C.; a large group of Sassanian stamp seals including agate, chalcedony, cornelian, haematite and rock crystal, engraved with motifs including human bearded busts, standing figures, a winged human-headed bull, winged horses, a scorpion, zebus including a zebu suckling a calf, crescent moon and star, some with Pahlavi inscriptions, 4th-7th Century A.D., 1 1/8 in.
