A large bronze incense burner, cover and stand Dated by inscription 12th year of Guangxu (1887) The body cast in high relief with sea creatures on a wave pattern ground, the cover reticulated with the Eight Trigrams, with seated Buddhist lion finial, the tripod stand in openwork with blossoming prunus branches, the base with a six-line inscription, which may be translated as: 'In the twelfth year of Guangxu, Liang Ding Fen from Pan Yu was teaching at Feng Hu Academy. In the Autumn, a temple was built for the purpose of cultural activities and this censer was therefore made for these ceremonies'. 54cm (21.1/4in) high including stand. (3). Major Jackson served in the 3rd Battalion 9th Gurkha Rifles at Jhikar gacha Ghat and subsequently for the Chindit Operations in Burma.
