A Lacquer, Inlaid and Wood Box Edo period (19th century), with seal Kan [Ogawa Haritsu (Ritsuo) (1663-1747)] Rectangular, designed on the lid in iro-e takamaki-e with the calligrapher Wang Xi Zhi (O Gishi) at his desk, a standing screen behind him and an attendant to his right, details of the scholar's objects of inlaid shell and lacquered horn and the face of the scholar and face and torso of the attendant and ducks in the lower right inlaid glazed pottery, the ground deeply carved wood, some carved to resemble hollow Chinese rocks, the edges of the corners of the box black lacquer with gold-lacquer foliate scroll and the interior and base of the box black lacquer 16 x 12¼ x 4¾in. (40.7 x 31.1 x 12.2cm.) In wood box inscribed Ritsuo saku O Yu Gun rinchi no zu tebako (Accessory box with design of the calligrapher Wang Xi Zhi (O Gishi) by Ritsuo) and signed on the underside Rokkaku Shisui and sealed Shisui
