A JAPANESE WAKIZASHI WITH SIGNED BLADE, probably 17th century with later carved 'horimono' to the 21in. curved and shortened re-polished blade (slight tarnish spotting and inclusions), finely moulded gilt 'habaki', moulded circular woodgrain effect 'tsuba' pierced with a geometric five petalled flower, both the 'hitsu-ana' filled with yellow metal, short tang signed with a two character signature and pierced with three 'mekugi-ana', cotton bound rayskin hilt with single 'menuki', matching 'fuchi' and 'kashira', complete with its probable original black laquered segmented scabbard deliberately shortened from the throat to re-accommodate the sword during its working life.
