A Japanese silver, shakudo and enamel koro and domed cover with a silver finial modelled as an eagle perched on rockwork above breaking waves and flowersprays, with silver coiled dragon handles, the foot and shoulder in shakudo and decorated in enamels with stylised floral sprays, the silver body with a shaped laquer panel decorated in the Shibayama-style in mother-of-pearl, stained ivory, horn and tortoiseshell with insects in flight beside an elaborate hanging basket of flowers suspended from silk tassels, the reverse decorated with a butterfly above numerous flowering plants on a kinji lacquer ground (damages to finial, minor pieces of inlay missing, slight old wear, some inlay restored) -- 10¾in.high.
