A Highly Unusual Cased Set Of D.B. Percussion Pistols, Comprising A 24-Bore Side-By-Side Pistol And A 42-Bore Box-Lock Turn-Over Pocket Pistol By James Purdey, 314½ Oxford Street, London, the first No. 2285 for 1832 The first with browned twist barrels, case-hardened patent breeches each with platinum line, finely engraved grooved case-hardened tang, signed case-hardened scroll engraved back-action locks each with blued safety-catch, and three bents, ebonized half-stock (fore-end repaired), engraved blued and case-hardened iron mounts, chequered butt, stirrup ramrod, and chequered forward trigger; the second with case-hardened turn-off barrels with an engraved band at each end, signed scroll engraved case-hardened action with engraved thumbpiece safety-catch and blued folding trigger, and finely chequered walnut butt with silver escutcheon and pommel-cap, both pistols with nearly all their original finish: in original lined and fitted mahogany case with accessories including three-way flask covered in red leather, and original paper cartridges and barrel key, the lid with trade label and flush-fitting carrying handle, in exceptional condition throughout, London proof marks 11¼in. (28.6cm.) and 6¼in. (15.9cm.)
