Beschreibung:

A highly important pair of Irish George II carved giltwood and gesso Architectural Pier Mirrors, firmly attributed to John Booker, Essex Bridge, Dublin, each leaf moulded divided pediment with tongue and dart and dentil moulded under mouldings, the frieze with scrolling flowers, hanging from drapes, and tied with ribbon bows, the sanded gilt frame with projecting upper corners, supporting floral swags, egg n' dart moulded border, with oval patrae above, scrolls below with carved rosettes, the apron with a lion mask in high relief issuing bell flower swags and leaf motif, each approx. 65" x 41" (165cms x 104cms). (2) Provenance: An almost identical pair that were supplied to the 10th Viscount Gormanston in 1743, also they appear to be the pair listed in the Great Dining Hall in an Inventory at Howth Castle taken in 1746.
