A group of three Chinese bowls: comprising a small bowl finely painted with two knarled branches of red tree peonies, iron-red Daoguang seal mark and of the period, 9cm [rim chip with related hair crack, additional short hair crack]; an unusual doucai 'cut-out' bowl and cover painted with cranes flying amongst cloud scrolls, apocryphal Qianlong seal mark, 11.5cm [damages]; and a blue and white 'rice' bowl painted with ruyi-head and lappet borders, the interior with five bats encircling a shou medallion, apocryphal Qianlong seal mark, 11.5cm. * Provenance The above lot was acquired either by Edward George Pellew Mayers [1840-1911] during military service in China and Japan between 1870 and 1880 or his son Edward Courtenay Pellew Mayers [1878-1933] who visited China in 1911. Thence by direct family descent.
