A group of three cameo brooches, the first a shell cameo depicting the profile of Apollo, wearing a laurel wreath head-dress and carrying a lyre, in a gold scroll embossed mount; the second comprising a shell cameo depicting the profile of Hermes, wearing a winged cap, in a silver and marcasite mount, and a further cameo brooch, first brooch length 55mm. £240-£300 Condition Report The first cameo measures 44mm x 34mm; it has a series of stress lines to the top left, it is quite well carved and shows only light wear. The mount is in reasonable condition although the pin is lacking. The second cameo measures 35mm x 28mm, it is quite well carved and shows minimal wear; the mount is stamped ‘935’. The third is a 20th century cameo, machine carved, in low grade silver mount stamped ‘800’. Footnote Apollo was the Greek god of music and Hermes was the Greek messenger god.
