A grand piano by Schmidt, Pressburg (now Bratislava), circa 1835 The walnut veneered case raised on three turned baluster legs. The music desk with a pair of elaborate gilt pivoting candle holders. The nameboard bearing a foliate decorated rosewood plaque inscribed: CARL SCHMIDT IN PRESSBURG. The six octave and seven notes keyboard CC-g4 with ivory naturals and ebony capped accidentals. Viennese action, bichord to EE and trichord above. Single bridge. Two pedals, mounted on a lyre, controlling keyboard shift and dampers. A circular paper label on the soundboard inscribed: Opus 674 Serial number 674 Length 246cm, width 130cm, case height including lid and leg blocks 40cm.
