A grand piano by Clementi, London, circa 1812 The cross-banded mahogany case inlaid with ebony and boxwood stringing, raised on four turned and reeded legs. The keywell veneered in satinwood with ebony and boxwood stringing and cross-banded in rosewood, surmounted by a gilt metal moulding to the top of the nameboard. A gilt medallion flanked by foliate gilt scrollwork on the nameboard inscribed: CLEMENTI & Co, LONDON. Stamped: Clementi & Co on the wrestplank and: 409. Six octave keyboard FF–f4 with ivory naturals and ebony accidentals. English grand action, trichord throughout. Divided bridge. Two ‘fishtail’ pedals mounted on the front legs, the right pedal divided, controlling dampers above and below middle c, the left pedal controlling keyboard shift.
