A graduated set of three early George II sterling silver casters, London 1727 by George Wickes (reg. 3 Feb 1722) Comprising a sugar caster, a pepper caster, and a mustard ‘blind’ caster. Each of rounded circular vase form upon a spreading circular foot. The pull off domed lids surmounted by a compressed knop finial. The lid to the sugar caster and pepper caster with pierced decoration of scrolling form with moulded divisions, the mustard caster with engraved decoration to mimic piercing. The bodies with later embossed decoration of spiral fluting and foliage, each with a rocaille C scroll cartouche to the front engraved with a later crest of upon a rock an eagle rising below the motto Virtute et Veritate. The feet with later chased rocaille decoration. Fully marked underneath sugar and mustard caster, maker’s mark lacking to the pepper caster, lion passant to the lid bezel of sugar and pepper lid only.
