A good late 19th-Century lacquered-brass and black enammelled compound binocular microscope, signed on the foot R. & J. BECK 6876 LONDON , with rack and pinion adjustment to the eyepieces, the binocular tube held on a limb from the main limb , adjusted by rack and pinion with micrometer fine adjustment, with Nicol prism and double nose-piece, circular stage and substage concave mirror, the main limb with a peg at the bottom to fit into one of five holes on the triangular base for different positions, with two pairs of eyepieces and two unmatched Zeiss eyepieces, various substage attachments, bull's-eye condensor, several slide preparations, mostly by Smith, Beck and Beck, and several objectives: Newton & Co. 2/3in. and 0in. projecting objectives, Newton & Co. & 3in. objectives, unsigned 1in, 2in, ¼in. and two 4mm. objectives, four further unmarked objectives, a Zeiss 1/8in. immersion and a Leitz 2in. immersion, in the original mahogany carrying case -- 15¾in. (40cm.) wide ; and a copy of THE MICROSCOPE , by Conrad Beck, stated first edition, R. & J. Beck Ltd, London, 1921 See Colour Illustration
