Lot Description: A Good Assortment of Miser's or Stocking Purses , comprising four examples each offering different features. The first, of medium size and in dark shades of ruby and green, steel beads incorporated in the main body, has a floral design of the same beads at the straighter end, and the addition of two crochet "skirts" of scallop shape, also beaded. Finished at the rounded end with a rope-effect tassel. Purse two, in dark blue with flecks of yellow to complement the main design is finished at both ends with simple silk fringe, the two sliders being covered with the same threads. Purse three is of the orientalist style, a combination of green, and gold metal threads, with one large and two smaller decorative tassels, and green/gold sliders. The final purse, the longest, alternates between fine, tightly worked bands and more open work, each end having a wide cream panel incorporating pink flowers and strap-like leaves in various greens, supported by two further bands each with a flower head within a cream circle. Simple thread tassels, gold metal sliders (4). Condition Report: . The first item has loss to one of the loops of rope tassel. Purse two appears clean and unused, purse 3 has some dullness to the metal threads, although the tassels are bright. Very slight colour fade to the central, plain panel on purse 4.
