PERCUSSION RIFLE MADE FOR THE NIZAM OF HYDERABAD, with browned twist barrels rifled with nine grooves, inlaid at the breech with a design of interlaced gold foliage, and on the rib 'His Highness the Nizam' in gothic script, the maker's name engraved in gothic script on the rib beneath the breech, foliate engraved folding leaf sights calibrated to 300 yards, gold-inlaid case-hardened breeches, engraved gold plugs, case hardened tang inlaid with gold foliage, locks decorated en suite and including maker's initials in gold gothic script, engraved gilt safety-catches and retaining screws, gold-inlaid blued steel mounts, including hinged circular patch-box cover, chequered grip and fore-end, the former with gold-inlaid case-hardened trap with hinged cover, cheek-piece, gilt chequered triggers, engraved gilt escutcheon engraved with the initial N, barrel-bolt (chipped) and barrel-bolt escutcheons, original brass-mounted ramrod, and much original finish: in original brass-mounted mahogany case lined in crimson velvet, and with accessories including Hawksley copper-flask, turned ivory boxes and various silver-plated tools, the lid (cracked) with trade label, the exterior with carrying handles and brass shield-shaped escutcheon engraved 'His Highness the Nizam', by Thomas Elsworth Mortimer, Edinburgh, London proof marks, No. 6102, circa 1855 30¼in. barrels
